Missouri Aquarium Society April 2007 Workshop recap by David Ramsey
Later on, Charles and Sue and some of the other speakers come over. Hunger strikes so we all go to one of the largest Chinese restaurants I have ever seen. They were busy with a big crowd, but service was still pretty good and the food was great. We were going to do some fishroom visits but it was getting late. Instead, I went and checked in and got a very welcome good nights sleep.
Saturday morning, back to Jost Chemical for the speakers. A pretty good crowd comes streaming in. I guess around 40 people were there for the talks.
Jerry Jost started out with a talk on Plant Nutrition. Everone paid attention here since we have been admiring a lot of gorgeous planted tanks throughout the building. He has the high light tanks, with upwards of 5 watts per gallon. He does CO2 injection and lots of big water changes. His tanks show he really knows his stuff. A lot to be learned from this man about keeping a traffic stopping aquarium.
Mike Hellwig did a presentation on Apistogrammas. Anyone who has heard one of Mike's presentations knows he just has the right kind of personality to give great talks. This one was a good one. It made me want to get some apistos again. In fact, thanks to Joe Gephart I now have several tanks of some really nice apistos. Me, the killie guy, getting excited about some apistos. Yup, they are that nice.
After lunch, Terry Fairfield did a talk on Fish Health. Terry knows things about fish nutrition and fish diseases that I did not even know was stuff to be known. He has a book out, watch for it and get it. All of us get a sick fish we don't want to loose. And improving nutrition overall is a good thing for our fish.
Then me, David Ramsey with a video presentation of different fish breeding videos. I get a kick out of video taping the nitty gritty. There is a lot to be learned by being able to slow it down and replay it over and over again. Whatever helps me take care of my fish I want to do.
